Ex-Pentagon director to speak at UVa

A nita K. Jones, former director of the Pentagon's multibillion-dollar research program and a computer science professor at the University of Virginia will deliver UVa's annual Fall Convocation address Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. on the Lawn.

From 1993 to 1997, Jones served as the first woman to head the Department of Defense's director of science and technology program, managing a $35 billion annual budget.

The Thomas Jefferson Award, given annually to a member of the university community who exemplifies, in character and achievements, the ideas of UVa's founder, will also be presented at convocation.

University Forum on Oct. 14.

During the forum, UVa President John T. Casteen III will give a public address on the state of the university, followed by a question and answer session. The forum will take place on the South Lawn from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
